On This Day in 1935


I learned something new today. On August 14,1935 President Franklin Roosevelt signed into law the Social Security Act. 

This new program was funded by payroll taxes and the benefit was based on a worker's income. Don't, please don't believe that cutting payroll taxes would be fine because the money would just come out of the general fund as the president said. Millions depend on this after working hard for many years to have an old age that can help to keep them housed and fed.

Goodness, what's next? Attacking the Post Office? Oh yeah he's doing that too. Damn.
