New TV Knitting to Share

I have started a new project for fairly easy TV watching knitting. I work on these types of projects typically after dinner while watching something with Jim. I could also call projects like this one downstairs knitting because my upstairs projects are the ones that need more attention and I do that better upstairs alone in my craft room or the family room that Jim rarely uses.

This pattern is the Sunny Baby Blanket and is a free pattern that I have made a few times. You can find it by clicking here. It is all knits and purls and easy to do. I bought the yarn on sale at Joann's and also have red and gray waiting to be made in this pattern. I have some more delicate patterns planned too. One of those will be white for a christening or baptism blanket and another in pink for a new little lady. I'll share those later.

I worked on this last night while we watched "Mending the Line" on Netflix. Such a good movie! We both loved it!

Cas and Dylan

I admit it, we aren't the most up to date people. We watched an 8 year old movie that isn't even a classic or likely to have a cult following like the really cool movies do. However, this movie certainly entertained this old couple last night for awhile before going to bed.

Cas & Dylan is a road trip movie without a romance movie ending. A friendship did happen, and a young woman faced being at the end of a life while being pregnant and starting out life on her own. After going through that, the end of a life, myself earlier this year the story brought back some feelings to me. It was not the best told story but it didn't get stuck anywhere and turn boring either. 

So, have you watched anything on Netflix that you would like to share with me? As for me I will watch nearly anything, just not horror. Can't handle that in movies or books.

A Simple Day

There are no big expectations for today. It is trash day so our cans are out at the curb already. Jim took care of that. We will have leftovers for dinner so the planning for that is done. We are going to look at paint chips later this morning. The cool white paint in our bedroom is not working with the new quilt. I am thinking the room will feel cozier with a warmer off white like Swiss Coffee or Navajo White. Those are 2 beige/very light brown colors that I remember the names of but am not committed to either. That is why we are going to collect possible choices in paint colors to bring home and have in the room to decide.

While we are out, we are going to drop by the closest Goodwill Store to us. I have some clothes to drop off. Jim has never wandered through a thrift store so we will wander there for a bit so he can say he did it. 

That means the afternoon might be free for knitting and Netflix time. I do this while he is watching Judge Judy and news which I am not interested in. He watches whatever downstairs and I watch what I want upstairs and after that we have dinner. Dinner is early here because we are old. 

I am currently watching Bloodline. I keep wondering how the kids seem to be so messed up and the mom is an innocent old hippie. There is more to her than has been told so far I think. I look forward to learning her secrets as the story develops. I am in the middle of the first season. The story is a little too gritty for Jim. The softie in him likes a happily ever after story sealed with a Hallmark kiss at the end. Maybe I exaggerated a little bit there, but he doesn't really like thrillers or Sci Fi like I do. To each their own. On Prime Video last night we watched Fathers and Daughters (affiliate link). We both liked it very much. I've left you a link to check it out if you wish.

The Great British Baking Show

The current season of The Great British Baking Show available on Netflix started with these contestants. I know it probably takes a lot of editing to get the vibe that the producers want but what I can get over is how they do such a great job of getting what seems to be genuinely nice personalities on the show. They cheer and support each other, and I have high hopes for all of them. Can't they all be winners? LOL.

Waiting for the new episode each week is hard but honestly I think I enjoy the show more than if it was all released at once and I binge watched it. We are down to 4 contestants now and the end is very close. Of those left they are all my favorites.

New Amsterdam on Netflix

I started watching New Amsterdam with my sister when we were in California together clearing out Mom's house. After busy days we would watch a couple episodes after dinner before going to bed to be ready to start all over again. We got through the first 3 seasons. I have been watching it occasionally since I came home and am now into the 5th and final season. I have really enjoyed this show and would recommend it to anyone who likes hospital shows with doctors and nurses who have real lives and flaws.

Next up on my list of things to Netflix and chill with is the final season of The Crown. What have you been watching lately? Any recommendations for me?

Two Movies on Tuesday

With no football to watch on a Tuesday night, we watched a couple movies after dinner. Jim chose the first one we watched on Amazon Prime Video, Rumor Has It. This movie was a cute look at what could have happened to all the characters in the years after The Graduate. In the end the father character told the daughter what she needed to know, and the right guy ended up with the girl.

I chose the second movie of the night. We watched The Last Laugh. This was a great movie about getting old and facing your death. Nothing sad here though, at least not for long. Chevy Chase and Richard Dreyfuss were wonderful as old friends who end up in the same assisted living place. They take off on a grand cross country adventure. There are some great belly laugh moments in this one. Too bad that by this time Jim was dozing in his recliner.

In creative news I finished a scarf and started another. These are both crocheted and made with Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball, colorway Prism. Both are Lion Brand Patterns. Maybe I will get some pictures taken to share here soon.

Exciting New Beginning

Last night I finished the knitting on the last modified by me, Reynas that I have planned with the yarns I have on hand. Of course, weaving in the ends and blocking are yet to happen but they will soon because those pieces are destined for eBay listings.

So, with Netflix on, I finished the newly released episodes of The Lincoln Lawyer, I started the next pattern in a series of planned projects. I am changing skills this time. This pattern is crocheted rather than knitted. I have crocheted longer than knitted so it is a bit like coming home to a friend. I really do enjoy the rhythm of the hooked stitches being worked and I haven't done much crocheting since I worked on market bags and some potholders.

The pattern this time is Summer Sprigs Lace Scarf by Esther Chandler which is a free download on Ravelry. The scarf starts with a long, an oh so very long, chain, 386+1 stitches. I have single crocheted across the chain and have begun the first patterned row which I think gives the scarf it's sprigs that are in the pattern name. The pattern is written for lace weight yarn but in the projects, I found that someone did it with Summer Nights by Lion Brand Yarn. Searching for patterns made with that yarn is what led me to this lovely pattern. It has over 500 projects recorded on Ravelry and lots more have been made I am sure because like me many yarnies may never get around to recording their projects. I think about it and then never get around to doing that.

Watched on Netflix, Dumplin'

Jim and I have a lot of differences, but we have made it 47 years so far. One of those little ones is that I love binging a series and he prefers to watch movies. I usually let him pick our after dinner movie while I watch my series, currently finishing up Better Call Saul, while knitting in the afternoon before it is time to fix dinner.

Yesterday however I took the after dinner choice into my own hands. While logging in to Netflix for my afternoon knitting time, the movie Dumplin showed up in our recommendations. It seems to involve Dolly Parton. To me it seems like everything she has a hand in is wonderful, so I decided that this movie should be watched after dinner last night. I told Jim about my choice, and he agreed to watch it and then Jim as usual fell asleep during the movie and he really missed out. I don't know how he managed that because this one gave me all the feels. I laughed, shed a couple tears and even applauded at one point. I loved this movie and told him to watch it again some time when he was sure to stay awake!

Many of you may have already seen Dumplin since it was released in 2018 and we are typically slow about these things. However, if you haven't seen it and want a movie that will bring some joy into your life watch this one.

Making Fun, New on Netflix

Last night after watching the Thursday Night NFL Game on Amazon Prime I wanted to watch something for about an hour before going to bed. At the top of my home screen on Netflix was information on a new show called "Making Fun". 

As per usual Jim was snoozing in his recliner since about the 3rd quarter of the game. How he managed to still snooze through all my laughter during this show is a mystery to me. So to share it with him I will probably be watching episode 1 again but that is okay. This show is so funny. I haven't really laughed like I did last night over a show in a long time.

Season 10 Call the Midwife

A new season of one of my favorite shows is now on Netflix. Call the Midwife Season 10 is now on and I have watched the first 2 episodes. I watch during my morning time on the treadmill.

As usual the stories in each episode can make me smile, cry and think. What I really like is that this show does not shy away from exposing the issues of the time the stories take place. We are up to the middle 60's now and it is a time I am vaguely aware of since I was born in 1955. 

These ladies and the nuns as well are heroes to me. I think, with 2 nurses in my family, that is is a calling to serve that brings a person to a nursing career. 

Today's nurses are heroes to me as well. As an American I am so proud of how the nurses in this country held up under unbelievable pressures during the height of the pandemic.

Napping through the Weekend

 This weekend I know there is one thing I can count on happening. Jim will take a nap. It may happen on Saturday. It may happen on Sunday. This nap will may happen on both days, more than once a day even. With our stay at home except for essential trips life style now the guy just crashes on the weekends. I don't mind. He works very long days all week long, at least 10 hours and sometimes more. Add in to the long days the fact that the man doesn't sleep well most nights. 

We watch shows on Netflix together sometimes and he snoozes through most of them. I feel bad but it is what it is. He really enjoyed going somewhere almost every weekend in the old (pre Covid) days. Now he just watches random stuff on television if we are not Netflix bingeing like the Food Network. Want to hear something funny about that? The man doesn't cook. I don't get it. So anyway if he is snoozing in front of the tv I just put on my headphones, queue up some podcasts and start knitting because you know that crafters like me always have something to do. 

Not much of a napper myself, are you?

The Repair Shop on Netflix

I recently enjoyed the first few episodes of season 1 of "The Repair Shop". As an American I like to hear British accents in shows and podcasts. Weird, I know, but I find it soothing in some way. In this show that definitely happens. Beyond those lovely voices I find the idea of bringing old worn treasures back to new life is so inspiring. The items The Repair Shop experts work on so successfully to restore many times bring tears to the owners eyes and to the viewers, this viewer anyway when the items are revealed all finished. 

The rest of you can get excited about that guy with the tigers as for me I will stick with the amazing work and positive vibes of watching "The Repair Shop".

Call the Midwife

The PBS series Call the Midwife is my current Netflix evening entertainment. Jim watches the news so I put on some headphones and get lost in the story on my tablet. I am at the last episode of season 4 right now. Netflix has the first 6 seasons and PBS has 7 seasons and there will be 9 seasons done with the current news I can find about the show online. That will take the nuns and nurses into the 1960's and I am looking forward to seeing it all.

Wow Friday Already!

At the end of what has been a prolific week of blogging for me I do find myself with just a couple more things to share with you.

My newest listing in my Zibbet shop is a gray and silver infinity scarf.

It was supposed to be a red infinity scarf. That red scarf is a lovely deep tomato red color that for the life of me I could not get a good picture of. All of my tries came out faded and to orange looking. Will have to try that one another day.

I spent a great deal of time on twitter this week. There are some amazing people to follow and interact with out there. I enjoy them all. If you are interested in following me on twitter or google+ the links are at the end of the post.

In other random news I am currently knitting another scarf, blues and purples this time. My current Netflix marathon is Dawson's Creek. It will disappear tomorrow and I had never watched it. The teenaged drama made a not too distracting background to computer or knitting time.

Entertainment

We have had a Netflix subscription for awhile now. Maybe a year or more but I have lost track and it doesn't really matter. Jim doesn't use it much but I do. We have different tastes like most couples. I like a story and he is more into reality or rather what pretends to be reality on television.

Netflix lets me have my stories. At first I queued a lot of shows and movies that I thought I would enjoy. For tv shows I used to watch one episode and then move on to another show and watch an episode kind of like if you were watching regular television. Lately I have changed to a marathon style of watching as many episodes as I have time for in one sitting. So far I have seen all of Bones and Mad Men that is until new seasons comes out. I still have a huge queue of things I might like waiting for me. Did you know that the queue limit on Netflix is 500 titles? I learned that.

So today I want to know if you have a Netflix or Hulu account are you a marathon watcher or more scattered?

Waste Land

What a great movie. I watched "Waste Land" on Netflix. It is easy to understand why it won so many awards. Have you seen it?

In the morning

Jim got us a Netflix account which I am loving. I have discovered that is is not a good thing to be trying to count on a row of lace while watching a movie though. I have a row that needs to be undone. I will do that in the morning when the light is better so I don't mess it up.
