On This Day 2014

On this day in 2014 I was living in Jackson Wyoming. I was at home taking pictures of a scarf I knitted. This one was created from a discontinued Red Heart yarn named Symphony. I liked the way these photos turned out and this scarf was listed on a now discontinued site named Zibbet. Anyone remember that place? All of us that joined had such high hopes for a good Etsy replacement, but it didn't happen. Many Etsy sellers went there in frustration after Chad Dickerson changed the definition of handmade to include "designed by with production partners" which has led in part to the current large number of resellers and print on demand t shirt shops.

Anyway, about the picture that I liked best of that day...

You can see that the yarn made a light fabric. It drapes well and with the fluffiness of the yarn scarves made from this are light and still warm. I have some others in different colors too. Some day they should all be on line but not now. I have decided that since Jim likes to travel so often I am throwing in the towel on the idea of opening a shop and then putting it in vacation mode a few times a year. At our age we may not be traveling this much forever so my time will come later.

The beauty of this thinking is that I plan on doing a lot more "just for me" crafting. That is the reason for the sock project and the plans to start making more of my own clothes. I have lots of quilts and sweaters in my mind waiting to be done as well. I will always have something to work on. It has been that way my whole life and as long as my hands and eyes work it will always be that way.

Back with more again soon.
Take care and stay cozy!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Well there's an original title for the first post in a new year. LOL. I do hope you are all full of grand plans and happy events in your future though.

Today is Jim's birthday. Like mine in June it is one of the 0 birthdays. We are both 60 now. Rather strange to think about being this age. I made him some brownies this morning to have as a treat this evening after work since he likes those better than cake.

This photo is from our trip to Hawaii last winter. I know he has in mind a trip to some place warm again in the next few months.

My shops on Etsy and Zibbet are reopened after being in vacation mode since Thanksgiving. I spent all that time away from home in Salt Lake. Some of that time was full of joy and laughter, some not so good, hellish at times in fact but let's just not go there okay.

That's all I have for you all today. I'll be back again soon, promise.

All About the Buttons

Creating is in my blood. My Father was a designer & my Mom was a talented needle artist. Since I was a child, I have always been busy with various forms of fiber work including knitting, crochet, needlepoint, embroidery and weaving. Alongside of those interests was that famous old cookie tin of buttons that I loved to play with. During my fulfilling career in education I created and sold to colleagues and some local stores. The ease of online selling became a reality for me in 2005. I now devote myself full time to combining fibers and buttons but I also love and make tape measures, clocks, magnets and bookmarks. There's barely a craft I haven't tried! Please don't ask me to paint...that's another story!
I love special orders so don't hesitate to ask. I am proud of my 100% feedback selling online with over one thousand items off to new homes in the US and around the world.

I remember Barbra from those early days of selling handmade goods online. I started seeing mentions of a site called Etsy on blogs that year. I joined myself in 2006. When Zibbet was created later I found Barbra had a shop there too. I have enjoyed reading her thoughts in forums on both sites, Etsy and Zibbet. They were always calm, thoughtful, inspiring.

Her creativity has always impressed me. She takes simple bits of fabric and buttons or yarn and buttons or barrettes and buttons or wall decor with buttons and turns the into things that are truly special. You get the idea that it is always "All About the Buttons" right?

Not really all buttons all the time. Barbra shares a lot on social media and if you want to follow along you can find her on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and Pinterest. Below you can see all the latest pins on a board she has titled My Stuff. This board and all the others Barbra has are worth checking out and following.

Don't forget about shopping. Her shop All About the Buttons is filled with things that would make great gifts anytime for you, your home and those you love.

Follow All About The Buttons's board My Stuff! on Pinterest.

In the Shade of the Sycamore Tree

"In the Shade of the Sycamore Tree" - doesn't that sound like a supremely lovely place to be? It is and I will show you why. Cynthia's shop on Zibbet is filled with a whimsical world of pottery creations like fairy houses and animals that are flutes or banks or even bowls. You can find fused glass jewelry and beads. There are useful pieces for your home like platters and for the upcoming holidays find glass star ornaments.

Of course you don't need to take my word for it. I will show you!

Where does all this creativity come from? I will let Cynthia tell you in her own words.
"My creative energies are inspired by a walk in the woods, reading a fantastical story under a Sycamore tree in my youth, a beautiful sunset, or the wonder of my students. I hope that my creations convey my fascination of nature, it's colors, textures, and forms, as well as, it creatures, as I share them with you."
Here are all the connections you need to find out what's new in the shade of the sycamore tree!

Go on! Shop! Share! Enjoy!

New on Zibbet

Some sellers on Zibbet are starting to see their new websites from Zibbet.
You can see mine at http://cozy.zibbet.com
My first impressions are positive. I love how the products are visible above the fold. I like that inside the shop my categories are displayed in a list on the left.

For a comparison my Zibbet shop is at http://zibbet.com/cozy

Flowers by LJP

I'm a crafter who loves to press flowers and use them to make pendants and cards. I make beaded jewelry and beaded bobby hair pins, too. I love to work with vintage postage stamps to make magnets.
I am a crafter myself. Silly obvious statement if you have ever read this blog at all. What is want you to know is that I take great pleasure sharing what other crafters do. The crafting community is filled with so many skills, techniques and styles that it is simply amazing.

Today's shop is Flowers by LJP. The variety is impressive here with items made with vintage stamps, pressed flowers and vintage components. You will find these materials in earrings, necklaces, bracelets, eyeglass chains, magnets and lanyards. There are too many to show you all in one blog post so I have chosen a couple of my favorites to share today. When you are ready to shop just click on the pictures and you will be whisked away to Flowers by LJP.

Wow Friday Already!

At the end of what has been a prolific week of blogging for me I do find myself with just a couple more things to share with you.

My newest listing in my Zibbet shop is a gray and silver infinity scarf.

It was supposed to be a red infinity scarf. That red scarf is a lovely deep tomato red color that for the life of me I could not get a good picture of. All of my tries came out faded and to orange looking. Will have to try that one another day.

I spent a great deal of time on twitter this week. There are some amazing people to follow and interact with out there. I enjoy them all. If you are interested in following me on twitter or google+ the links are at the end of the post.

In other random news I am currently knitting another scarf, blues and purples this time. My current Netflix marathon is Dawson's Creek. It will disappear tomorrow and I had never watched it. The teenaged drama made a not too distracting background to computer or knitting time.

Monday will be here soon and I will be back then.

Randomly Sharing Peachtree Cottage on Zibbet

On schedule today and randomly sharing a shop I came across. This time it is Peachtree Cottage.

My favorite items among all that is in the shop such as beaded jewelry, crocheted baby items and more are the tatted designs. Tatting is a way to make handmade lace and to me a skill that produces the most beautiful products. Show us you say?
Well I will.

A Bracelet

A Victorian Bookmark

Butterfly Earrings

Most of the items in the shop can be custom ordered in colors of your choice. There are many more bookmarks, more earrings, and pendants, all of them tatted.

The seller introduces herself on the shops profile page with these words.
I create chainmaille, beaded and wire wrapped jewelry; shuttle tatted bookmarks, jewelry, and other tatted items; crochet and knit baby blankets, sweater sets, and home decor items. All are personally handmade and quality checked by me.

Handcrafting is part of my heritage and has been handed down through my family over the years, from my mother's mother, to my mother, to me. I have been crafting for over 50 years. Even with years of hand crafting experience, I continue to research new ideas and concepts as I create each of my creations, or patterns.

Mission - To use my skills and knowledge to make creative, quality, handmade creations in Jewelry, Crochet and Tatting. Also to create beautiful as well as functional items which will enhance peoples lives and bring a smile to their faces at affordable prices.

Jewelry - Sparkling timeless elegance is yours with my handmade jewelry. My chainmaille, beaded and tatted jewelry items are carefully handmade and quality double checked to ensure you are receiving my best creations. Chainmaille jewelry brings artistic, ageless beauty to items appropriate for both men and women. Creating with beads allows for sparkle, color, and modern designs. Handmade lace tatted jewelry allows for the romance of yesteryear, a feminine flair, and a personal touch in your jewelry.

Tatting - The art of making lace using a shuttle and thread captured my interest several years ago. Since that time I have worked hard to achieve the status of Artist for shuttle tatting (I am currently working towards Master). Bookmarks, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, decorations, etc. all made knot by knot are perfect as gifts or as a special treat for yourself.

Crochet and Knit - Don't you just love the soft skin of a little newborn baby? I've always felt babies deserved something special just for them. My sweaters, hats, booties, and blankets or afghans are made with super soft yarn to caress them gently. My handmade items make wonderful baby shower gifts or pamper your own baby with sweet, soft items from my hooks and needles! They are also great for Reborn Dolls!

Home Decor - Bring graceful, timeless elegance to your decor with my selection of thread creations for your home. Carefully created one stitch at a time my bookmarks, doilies, and tissue box covers bring warmth, comfort and style to every room of your home. Pamper yourself with a touch of hand made elegance for your home!

Memberships - I was the Founder and Leader of the Thread Artist Guild® from 2005 to 2013. I am honored to have achieved the level of Master Artist. I am also a founding member of the Guild of Master Bearcrafters. In addition, I maintain membership in the Crochet Guild of America.

Over the weekend

It was mildly, probably for some and wildly for me, exciting here this weekend.

  • I went over the 1000 mark for followers on twitter. Never thought that would happen. If you are interested I am @cozyatoz.
  • I listed some dishcloths and sold some on the same day in my re-energized Zibbet shop.

  • I finished up the crocheting on a donation afghan. This will be the third year I have given one to the hospital in Jackson for the first baby of the new year. It was done in a pattern called Catherine's Wheel or more currently known now as a Wooleater. As usual for me the ends need woven in on it but I have lots of time for that.

  • One Saturday night we went out to dinner at Teton Thai with some friends. Good food and good company.
  • We had our first pretty good snow storm over the weekend. The first snows are always lovely. You will hear me grumbling about March I am sure.

Till next time,
