It's Been a Minute

Yes, no blogging since April. Since then, we have gone to a wedding, took a trip to Hawaii with a granddaughter and considered and then dismissed the idea of a second home in a cooler place.

The wedding was an enjoyable day and I wish the couple well. They seemed so young to be taking on all the grownup possibilities that life can throw at you. Maybe that is just because I am so old. (I turned 69 last week.)

Our trip to Hawaii was wonderful. We went to Oahu. Our activities included a Pearl Harbor visit, a tour of the island including the Dole Pineapple Plantation, horseback riding at Kualoa Ranch, a luau and of course a beach day. Granddaughter would love to go back and said she would even like to live there. Who knows, maybe she will.

We are facing another very hot summer here, possibly record setting and the thought of a cooler place up north sounded very appealing. We considered properties in Mayer, Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside, Snowflake and Payson. We were very close to putting in an offer on a lovely home surrounded by towering trees. After a pretty much sleepless night spent discussing our values and needs and crunching numbers we decided 2 homes just was not a good idea and we love the home we are in now.

If you read here much you know I like to collect pinecones on my walks. On our house hunting trip I picked up a couple to bring home. I have these sitting on my desk where I can see them every day. I just put them on the laptop for their photo shoot. Aren't they pretty?

Surgery and Recovery

The last couple weeks I have been spending a lot of time paying attention to Jim. He recently had surgery on a torn rotator cuff.

The day of the surgery I dropped him off at the hospital and came back home to wait. With the Covid19 complicating life right now I was not allowed to wait in the hospital. I did feel he was in good hands since he works there and everyone seems to know him. I got a call that he was ready to leave the hospital and went over to pick him up. At the main entrance my temperature and name were taken. I took advantage of the hand sanitizer station there too.

Next I had to walk back to the surgery department to sign papers and get instructions for him. I sanitized my hands again and of course I was masked for this whole process. I do think it is usually a good idea for instructions for care to be told to two people so that details that may be important are less likely to be missed.

Once home he had to keep a sling on, nearly 3 weeks out still using the sling. He handled the pain very well and the frustrations of being one handed as well. He went to work this week and is handling it well too. He has found sleeping in his recliner with the sling and the cpap machine he uses easier that trying to sleep in bed with those things. Physical therapy has started once a week so far and will change to twice a week at about 6 weeks post surgery.

I don't usually put pictures of myself online but I wanted to show Jim in better shoulder days. This was at Volcano National park last November. I finally got to see a volcano and loved being there! He always takes a great picture, me not so much. Oh well.

Happy New Year!

Well there's an original title for the first post in a new year. LOL. I do hope you are all full of grand plans and happy events in your future though.

Today is Jim's birthday. Like mine in June it is one of the 0 birthdays. We are both 60 now. Rather strange to think about being this age. I made him some brownies this morning to have as a treat this evening after work since he likes those better than cake.

This photo is from our trip to Hawaii last winter. I know he has in mind a trip to some place warm again in the next few months.

My shops on Etsy and Zibbet are reopened after being in vacation mode since Thanksgiving. I spent all that time away from home in Salt Lake. Some of that time was full of joy and laughter, some not so good, hellish at times in fact but let's just not go there okay.

Hawaii

In January I got to spend a week in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. We took a few tours, laid on the beach one day, had some great meals and enjoyed out time there. Both Jim and I said we could have stayed longer. That is kind of surprising since on most of our vacations the feelings we have seem to be that after about 4 days is that this place is great but it would be nice to be home. That didn't happen this time.

I read a photo tip on a blog once that I tried out on this trip. The idea is rather than take big panoramic photos try looking at pieces of a scene. Find a bit of it that will convey the feelings you had while there.

This vacation was peaceful and more but mostly peaceful. Here is an image I took on one of our tours to show that feeling.

This was taken at a Buddhist Temple that was part of a circle the island tour that included the Dole Plantation, the famous North Shore Beaches and this place.
