It's Been a Minute

Yes, no blogging since April. Since then, we have gone to a wedding, took a trip to Hawaii with a granddaughter and considered and then dismissed the idea of a second home in a cooler place.

The wedding was an enjoyable day and I wish the couple well. They seemed so young to be taking on all the grownup possibilities that life can throw at you. Maybe that is just because I am so old. (I turned 69 last week.)

Our trip to Hawaii was wonderful. We went to Oahu. Our activities included a Pearl Harbor visit, a tour of the island including the Dole Pineapple Plantation, horseback riding at Kualoa Ranch, a luau and of course a beach day. Granddaughter would love to go back and said she would even like to live there. Who knows, maybe she will.

We are facing another very hot summer here, possibly record setting and the thought of a cooler place up north sounded very appealing. We considered properties in Mayer, Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside, Snowflake and Payson. We were very close to putting in an offer on a lovely home surrounded by towering trees. After a pretty much sleepless night spent discussing our values and needs and crunching numbers we decided 2 homes just was not a good idea and we love the home we are in now.

If you read here much you know I like to collect pinecones on my walks. On our house hunting trip I picked up a couple to bring home. I have these sitting on my desk where I can see them every day. I just put them on the laptop for their photo shoot. Aren't they pretty?

Another Walk

Jim walked with me again. When I go on my own, I stay on the main road with nice wide sidewalks through my neighborhood. Letting him lead the way he kept taking off on side streets. He said it wasn't boring like my way is. Well, if it gets the man up and moving, I'll do different because that is the goal. Each day so far, he has gone a bit farther. Today was 3.5 miles. I did get another pinecone to add to my basket.

I saw the metal dinosaur in someone's yard on this morning's walk. He was just hanging out trying to look mean. LOL.

In other family news we got Covid and Flu shots yesterday afternoon. One of them in each arm and both arms are sore this morning, mostly when I try to raise them over shoulder height. It should only last a day or so and I can deal with that vs being hospitalized for either one of those diseases.

When it comes to vaccines, I'm not even gonna ask. You do you and I hope that means taking good care of yourself with the idea that doing that helps those around you too.

Gathering

Like many humans I am a gatherer. I don't mean that I forage for my food but rather that I gather items that please me to put in my nest. I like yarn, pretty glass, books, pottery and potted plants and much more but I try to limit my collecting, so I don't go over the edge into being a hoarder. I also like the look of pinecones and the always green trees they come from. If I am out for a walk somewhere and see pinecones on the ground, I've been known to take one home with me as a souvenir of my walk. 

Please excuse the poor phone picture but I wanted to share my basket of memories that is in my upstairs family room. It pleases me to see my collection of pinecones every day. Once our overnight temperatures aren't in the 90's I will be out for strolls around my own neighborhood and add to my collection.
