Where Have I Been?

I plan to have lots to share here in the coming days. However, for today I feel like my times are out of sync. I found myself wide awake at 2 am so here I am a couple of hours later after unpacking, sorting laundry, catching up the book list I keep. This is after traveling about 24 hours to get home from Vietnam where we, Jim and I, spent the last 2 weeks with a wonderful guide and group of fellow travelers. 

For today, I feel a bit fuzzy and out of sync with the time of day I was in and the time of day I am in now. Vietnam is 14 hours ahead of home, so it is weird right now. So, for today, it will be laundry and football. I am kind of hoping the Lions can get into the Super Bowl. Do you have any favorites?

I am blaming any typos that show up after I click on publish on jet lag.

Football Sunday and Knitting Time

I hope to get lots of knitting done today while watching football games with Jim. We are into the last week of the regular season and then the playoffs start. Not really rooting for any team in particular just like watching good games. 

I don't have to cook dinner this evening so that's a win for me. We went to a local pizza place last night and brought home leftovers. I just need to warm them up later.

My shawl, scarf, travel blanket thingy in gray is getting near the end. I am well into the 3rd skein and that's the last one for this pattern. More stockinette and about an inch of 2 x 2 ribbing and bind off. I want time to get it blocked and pretty before we take off for our next adventure which is coming soon. I'll let you all know about that later.

Football on Sunday

During this time of year Sundays are very predictable. It is the day we just do nothing much except watch football games. The first starts about 10 am, next are the 2 pm games followed by Sunday Night Football. Jim watches the games more than I do. I use the time to knit or read and glance at the games I might care about.

First up for the morning, shortly after I get this posted is a morning walk. Our neighborhood is nicely landscaped and the flowers you see here are part of it. Forgive the lousy phone picture please. This little bush with the bright flowers is such a delight for the eyes. I have no idea what the name of this is, I just know I like it.

Sunday and a Pinecone

After a day of sloth because of vaccination side effects and football I went for a walk this morning with Jim. I am over my headache and low grade fever so it was time to get out there again. My plan is to get this man moving and to keep myself in good shape too, of course. Win - win, right?

We got kind of a late start so after 3.5 miles it was getting warm, and it was time for me to head home. He likes to wander and that is what we did. I admit to feeling lost a couple times but eventually we came out on a main road, and I knew my way home from there, so I felt oriented again. He felt like a winner because he went a bit further after I turned for home. It's all good and I did manage to get a pinecone for my basket. This is a rather pretty one, don't you think so?

Yesterday we watched the historic Dolphins Broncos game first and then in the afternoon we saw the Cardinals beat the Cowboys. Of course, we ended with Sunday Night Football and the Steelers win. We are kind of limited with Sling. We can see the ESPN games using Sling and on Thursday we watch the game on Amazon Prime Video. For the games on the national networks like NBC, ABC or CBS we watch with an antenna and only get the games they broadcast in our area. I don't mind. Did you watch any football this weekend? Cardinals Win!

Preseason football began this week. We spent last night watching a good game between the Denver Broncos at the Arizona Cardinals. At the very end of the game the Cardinals made a touchdown and an extra 2 points to win with a score of 17-18. I don't know that I am really ready for football but here we are. 

Next week our hometown Cardinals play the Kansas City Chiefs. I always like to watch the Chiefs play.

So today, dear reader or dare I hope for readers, what I want to know is if you are a football fan? What teams do you like? Have you written off football as a violent sport that causes harm to too many people? Comments are, as always, welcome if relevant.

Football Season

We have lived in two different cities with a home town pro football team. Those cities were San Diego and Phoenix. We still keep an eye on the Chargers and Cardinals and how they are doing each season even though we live in Wyomming now. I always enjoyed the chance, whenever it came along, to go to the games. It wasn't often but it was always fun.

I look forward to the season at home too. Why? Well every weekend it gives me an excuse to sit in a chair for way too long and get lots of knitting or crocheting done although if the game is very good the needlework goes a bit slower.

Yea!

It was a nice weekend around here. Football preseason games started with the Cowboys and Bengals. We showed our house and have a renter lined up. It is nice to think of someone in the place who will make it home. We were beginning to worry that we would need to start shopping for mattresses, sofas, tables, chairs and more to furnish it as a snowbird rental and what we really wanted was for it to be lived in full time. It feels good to have that settled.

Great Weekend

My weekend was busy and fun and I hope yours was too. On Saturday we went up to Payson. That drive seems to be a regular one for us on the weekends. We stopped at the fruit stand again as they were getting ready to close for the day. When a tired vendor of fruits and vegetables is getting ready to pack up and go home it is a good time to shop. We got almost 2 cases of tomatoes, a case of apples, some pears and some potatoes all for $10! I have spent today making tomato sauce and trying out drying some of the tomatoes in the oven. Tomorrow I am going to make some apple pies to go in the freezer for Thanksgiving when we will have a houseful.

Sunday was spent getting cars washed and going to the Cardinals game. We were treated to seats in a suite by Jim’s boss. (Thank you Tony!) It was a nail biter fourth quarter but the defense really saved the game. It was so much fun to be in the crowd on a winning day.We had a small brush with fame after the game. We ended up at the elevators at the same time as John McCain and one of his daughters. Jim shook his hand. I didn’t get the camera out and ask for a picture because I figure every one needs a day off. We wondered later if senators have some secret safety products to protect them when needed when they are out in public. There were some quiet guys in suits around but I really don’t know if they were part of his group or not.

You Choose Dear

We recently got a new television. The old one died and I didn't think it was really old enough to do that. In the process we had to or rather Jim and the sales guy discussed the merits of plasma tvs vs led tvs vs lcd tvs. The whole thing made my head spin. In the end I really did not care which one we got. I love computers but other electronics are not what I get real excited about. Now that we have lived with the new tv for awhile I admit I like it and the picture is great but I probably would have thought that no matter what we chose. The one we got is a le…. no maybe lc… oh never mind. When we watch football Jim says he can count the blades of grass. Me? I am usually just listening and knitting so it might as well be on radio.

Lots of Football Soon

Soon Sundays will be exciting again. Football season will be starting. Preseason games will be starting in August. We have been Direct TV customers for several years. We started with them when we moved into a new house and cable was not available and not all the local channels could not be seen because of the mountains in the way of the signal. I think this may be our year to splurge on the NFL Sunday Ticket feature that is offered by Direct TV.

We have a couple favorite teams and so many others are great to watch. Seeing all your favorites no matter where you live is not a problem with the NFL Sunday Ticket schedule. Of course living in Phoenix we follow the Cardinals. For many years we lived in San Diego and came to love the Chargers in the days of Dan Fouts and Coach Coryell. Does any one else remember those fourth quarter wins? What about the Raiders keeping them out of the Superbowl two years in a row?

Maybe I will check out the NFL Sunday Ticket price and surprise Jim. He is a hardworking guy and deserves something nice like this. With up to 14 games to watch he will be busy all day and of course watching football means knitting my way through the games and getting lots of projects done.
