Another Quilt

The quilt you see here was a group project. Several years during the 1980s I hosted a quilt group pretty much weekly in my home. I was living in Navy housing at the time in San Diego. We had formed a group of Navy wives who got together to make a quilt each year. The quilt was usually raffled, and the proceeds went to things like "Breakfast with Santa" and an Easter Egg Hunt each year at our Community Center. For this one all of us put in our blue or brown scraps so a little bit of all of us was in this quilt. The reason I have this one is because my mother bought out the raffle by giving us a price a bit more than we usually made selling our raffle tickets. In clearing Mom's house earlier this year the quilt came back with me. I have a guest bed in my craft room/office that I keep this quilt on, so I see it every day now and remember fondly the times gathered around my quilt frame working, laughing and sometimes crying during the time shared with some amazing women.

Have you been part of a community group? Do you have fond memories of working on a group project?

Back with more again soon.
Take care and stay cozy!

Late Start

Been quite some time since I blogged. I missed it so here I am with good intentions.
What a year 2017 was and I am not even talking about politics. Jim was going to retire in the fall and then he didn't. I started creating a retirement nest for us in Arizona. At the beginning of the summer, Memorial Weekend in fact, Jim has a heart attack. He is doing very well these days but we kind of started adjusting timelines.

I am back nesting and he is still working. We started the year by going on a cruise. We were on the Holland America Line Oosterdam on a trip to Mexico. We had a lovely time and were welcomed back to San Diego by a couple of stunning sights. The first was the USS Midway all lit up before the sun rose and the second was a ship heading out of the harbor in the fog.

It was good to go and good to get home. I don't know when I will be here on the blog again. The plan for blogging would include the word soon. Until then take care.

Lots of Football Soon

Soon Sundays will be exciting again. Football season will be starting. Preseason games will be starting in August. We have been Direct TV customers for several years. We started with them when we moved into a new house and cable was not available and not all the local channels could not be seen because of the mountains in the way of the signal. I think this may be our year to splurge on the NFL Sunday Ticket feature that is offered by Direct TV.

We have a couple favorite teams and so many others are great to watch. Seeing all your favorites no matter where you live is not a problem with the NFL Sunday Ticket schedule. Of course living in Phoenix we follow the Cardinals. For many years we lived in San Diego and came to love the Chargers in the days of Dan Fouts and Coach Coryell. Does any one else remember those fourth quarter wins? What about the Raiders keeping them out of the Superbowl two years in a row?

Maybe I will check out the NFL Sunday Ticket price and surprise Jim. He is a hardworking guy and deserves something nice like this. With up to 14 games to watch he will be busy all day and of course watching football means knitting my way through the games and getting lots of projects done.
