An Unpleasant Surprise!

Jim is actually retiring on April 30th. We will be moving then. To have moving day go smoothly I plan to pack as much as possible as early as possible. With that in mind this morning I headed to the basement to clear out a guest bathroom and two guest bedrooms. Entering one of the bedrooms in sock covered feet I felt wet carpet. Looking further it seemed as if the Jack and Jill bathroom toilet had exploded! The tile floor and the small rugs on the floor..... well you can imagine. I am definitely not putting any pictures in this post for your sake and mine. You're welcome.

There is another drain down there in a utility room and it was backed up too. That sent water into the laundry room too. The plumbers have come and gone. The drains are doing their job now. Since we rent the landlord has a disaster company coming for clean up which starts with getting the basement dry and moving out furniture so that carpeting can be replaced.

I don't know how long the recovery will take. I guess I will change my timeline for getting ready for moving day.

Back with more again soon. Take care and stay cozy!

As I was beginning to organize what to start packing in my kitchen today I found these cups tucked away in the back corner of a high shelf. One of my first jobs after high school was pouring greenware in a ceramics shop. My boss wanted me to understand the process of completing a piece of ceramics so I made these and gave them to my Mom. She passed them back to me not long ago. As you can see from the bottom they have my maiden name initials and the date of April 1974. 40 years ago this very month! Time sure flies!

Yes I guess I just told you all I am moving - again. There is a thing up here for renters I have heard called the Jackson Hole shuffle. We are leaving Idaho and moving back to Jackson very close to the hospital where Jim works. No more worries about Teton Pass all winter long so this is a good thing.

Now that I have distracted myself from what I should be doing for a minute I had better get back to packing.

Good Time

The first of August seems to be a good a time as any to start blogging again. I have so neglected this blog that it really feels like starting over. I have missed writing here.

It has been quite a year with some pretty big things happening.

  • I had Flat Stanley with me and I hope showed him a good time around Jackson.
  • I helped my Mom after she had a knee replaced.
  • I got to go on my first cruise which was ok and a second one to Alaska that was wonderful.
  • I had to move from the house we had rented for a year and a half surrounded by all the wildlife. Jim did a great job of finding a new place while I was with Mom. We now have a pond in our backyard.

I welcome comments and conversation here. I have been missing that.
More to come.

Getting There

I am starting to feel like this new place is home. The tv guy just left. The picture above is of our new tv room. We are getting to be such silly old folks that we have his and hers recliners now. There isn't anything on the walls yet and I need to get the sewing machine out and start on some curtains.

We can watch American Idol tonight. Wouldn't want to miss that would we?

My online time is still limited. I can use a broadband card that Jim has but I need to limit my time on it. We should have internet access in the house by Friday so I can get caught up with all the email which I have been reading on my phone and waiting to answer, Facebook, the BlogFire guild so I can take part in our blog carnivals again, my shops, my google reader feeds and so on.

One of the blessings in this whole process it that unlike many short sale homes this one was in very good condition. The people who lived here before obviously cared about the place they left behind. It really just needed minor everyday type cleaning. So who ever you are, thank you.

Gotta run for now.

Am I Crazy?

After moving lots of little stuff in my car all week today I started on the kitchen. I am now doubting my love of Fiesta Ware as being sane. That stuff is so heavy! Beautiful but heavy. Time for ibuprofen and some sleep. I will be clearing my closet tomorrow.

Today's Thought

This is not a deep thought just something that occurred to me as I go back and forth between houses. There is absolutely no need for fancy fitness equipment when you are moving. Aerobics? Got it covered. Intervals to increase the calorie burn? Got it covered. Strength training? Got it covered. I know this is true because I am starting to feel the effects in every part of me. I started packing the kitchen today. I will only leave a minimum to keep us fed through the rest of the week. I guess I am really paying the price for being a sentimental pack rat. I suppose I should get back to work.

Still Here

It has been a busy week that has just flown by. I sold 2 more headbands, this time on Artfire. I have been packing and cleaning and doing small jobs between the two houses. We had a potential renter look at our current home. Whether they will take it or not is still up in the air.

I got really lost in memories and ideas for a couple hours sorting through my fabrics getting them ready to move. I have so many ideas! I want to start quilting again. Getting my antique quilting frame out of the attic here and moving to a place where I have room to set it up has got me dreaming and distracted.

Don't expect many posts as I go through the moving process.

Yesterday

I spent yesterday getting utilities turned on for a home inspection next week. I don't think anything will stop the deal for our new house now. It will be nice to have some room for Jim and I to get out of each others hair sometimes. Two stories should take care of that. I think the move will happen slowly because we want to do some new flooring and maybe some paint before we load a truck and change places.

Moving sucks but creating a new home is fun. Looking forward to it all.
Do you have anything special you are looking forward to?
