Deer in Snow (My Own Photo)

This morning, searching for inspiration to keep up with a writing daily habit, I came across this photo from December 2011 of deer outside my house in Jackson Wyoming. 

No matter how sneaky you are animals like this are very aware of any kind of movement. It is what keeps them alive. As I, as quietly as possible, came out a back door to take some pictures their heads all turned to look at me. This was the first image and the best of that day. 

I stayed as still as possible and after a while they relaxed, kept eating the leftover dry grasses from summer in the field and moved on. I did add the vignette shading to this image to make sure the animals stood out as the main focus.

Walking in a New Way

Most years I don't ask for anything for Christmas. I have whatever I want or need and giving people and especially Jim gift ideas is really hard. I also believe that Christmas is for kids. I think that about Easter and Halloween too. But I digress. 

Over the last couple years I have developed a serious walking habit. I really try to get in 10000 steps at least 5 days a week and most weeks I do that. 

In Jackson during the winter it is harder to get out for walks. It is not the cold that keeps me in however. In Wyoming the streets are not cleared to bare pavement like Utah does and spoiled me by doing that. Here in Jackson there are lots of runners and walkers out and about all winter long but not me. The problem is that the streets and most of the intersections develop layers of ice. I am not willing to risk my old bones on an icy road or sidewalk. Once winter sets in and it looks like this

or this outside my window it is time to stay in to walk. I go out for groceries of course. Still gotta eat! But I walk carefully over the ice in parking lots hoping that today is not the day I go down and break a hip.

So this year I asked for a treadmill. I have used it for a little more than a month now and I really like it. I get my steps in and feel like I am improved my chances of a good and mobile old age with every step. 

We ordered it from Amazon (where else does everything come from anymore?) along with a mat to put under it and some recommended oil to lubricate the belt to keep it running smoothly. I am very happy about this purchase so far. Now if I could just get Jim to use it too. I am sure it would be better for him that sleeping his way through the news or shows on the Food Network. The man doesn't cook but watches the Food Network but I guess that should be a post for another day.

What's New Wednesday, February 5th

Well not a lot of pictures got taken this week. I did manage some for two new listings though. It has been cloudy and snowy almost every day which gives my procrastination a good excuse I suppose. Really cold as well with nights below zero and days in the teens.

Today what's new are the blues. One of them is light and summery if you are dreaming of warmer, brighter days. The other is thick, very soft and warm.

Winter has come to my pond

The first day of Spring. Really?

I will tell you that most of that snow has fallen off the trees and the snow on the roof is melting so much that it sounds like rain but there is still a couple feet of snow on the ground. I heard Jackson does not have spring and maybe the person who told me that was right. Still pretty though.

Great Breakfast

I want to share with you what is a secret of ours. There is a Mexican restaurant in Apache Junction called Los Gringos Locos. During the winter when this town's population doubles with snowbirds they start serving breakfast on the weekends. We go here for breakfast most weekends through the winter usually on Sunday.

The food is fantastic and includes burritos with chorizo or machaca, plates of eggs with those meats or made to order omelettes. While others who don't know better are across the parking lot lined up to eat at a greasy spoon that shall remain nameless we have a wonderful breakfast in an uncrowded place for about the same price. The season will be ending soon and we will have to find a new place for our weekend mornings but you can be sure we will be back as soon as they start serving breakfast again next fall.

For lunch and dinner I have never had anything on the menu I didn't like. My favorite if you made me choose is probably the fish tacos. The fish is grilled and then chopped. It is put together with mild cheese, shredded cabbage and a mango salsa. Sooooo good!

Just felt like sharing this with you. If you are ever in the Apache Junction area and hungry you will never have a bad meal at this place.
