Birds in the Backyard

The bird house was a gift from my sister. We have had it hanging from a tree in the backyard for a few months now. Until this week there were no visitors. I guess with spring coming the birds are back in our area again. It is nice to watch them. I don't know what kind of birds they are and to me it doesn't matter. I just want to give them a treat and try to keep the feral and outdoor neighborhood cats out of the yard.

Back with more again soon.
Take care and stay cozy!

Springtime Products Found on Etsy

If  I can get myself past the depressing muddiness of melting snow  I think spring is one of the best seasons. I love watching for all the baby animals. So far on trips between Jackson and Salt Lake I have only seen baby cows. I do know that in the wild places all around there are baby moose, elk, deer, bison, and so many more born or soon to be born. The world is changing from winter white to the glorious to eyes new fresh green. Flowers, both cultivated and wild will be appearing soon and adding their colors to the green.

Window shopping this morning on Etsy I found some things to share with you that show the joy and colors of this lovely time of year.

If you are interested in any of my finds clicking on the picture will take you to the Etsy shop to learn more. No affiliate links today. Just sharing some lovely things!

Back with more soon! In the meantime stay safe, stay healthy and stay cozy!

The first day of Spring. Really?

I will tell you that most of that snow has fallen off the trees and the snow on the roof is melting so much that it sounds like rain but there is still a couple feet of snow on the ground. I heard Jackson does not have spring and maybe the person who told me that was right. Still pretty though.

On the Patio

We have a sign of spring on our patio. Each year that we have lived here in Arizona we have had a pair of nesting doves. They use the hanging pots on the patio for laying eggs. This year has been no exception. The eggs were laid sometime around Kaycee's spring break visit. We now have 2 babies being watched over by very attentive parents. Sneaking up on the pot when the parents are away for a short time we can see 2 little ones without any real feathers yet. It will be fun to watch them grow and fly for the first time in the coming days and weeks.

First Spring

I lived within 10 miles of the Pacific Ocean for most of the first 34 years of my life either in southern California, Guam or the San Francisco Bay Area. None of those places had anything like you would call spring.
With a new set of orders from the Navy we found ourselves moving to Utah in September of 1989. We bought our first  house in Murray and it had many fruit trees in the back yard. These included apricot, plum, peach, cherry and apple. The previous owners had a good sized garden and all these trees and it was one of the reasons we bought the house.
As winter was turning to spring that first time I kept an eye out back on those trees. Watching for the changes each day as leaves and flowers came out and the fruit started to develop was wonderful to me. Where I came from things didn't go dormant and then come back to life so I really did find the process fascinating.
The tree that stands out in my mind that spring was the apple tree that was the oldest and largest of them all. Watching the leaves come out I remember thinking, "So that is apple green". Seeing the color in real life rather than a crayon box or paint chip made it so much more beautiful. Nearly 20 years later I can still recall that first real spring and the beauty of my backyard.
