Back Home

I will be home again tomorrow afternoon. I was glad to help and will be glad to be home. I leave hoping the rest of my mother's healing process goes well.

If you are wondering I found the plane in the DandielionsDreams shop on Etsy.

Happy Birthday!

I do hope he is happier on his birthday than he was this day in February when his mom was going around with a camera taking pictures of every one. This is my son James, or as all the family calls him, Jimmy. He is 28 years old today and I wanted to wish him a happy birthday here on the blog.

He and I share a love of computers and handcrafted things. He likes to figure out how things work just out of curiosity and started this at a young age.
(Insert embarrassing mom story here.) The first memory I have of this trait in him happened when he was about two years old. I was on the phone with someone and assumed he was playing with toys in the other room. While I was talking he came up and showed me that he had found a screwdriver and taken all the handles off of the drawers on the desk in the living room. After the phone call we of course had a lesson on how to put them back on.

His life has been a busy one lately with a move from apartment living to a house, a lovely wife, 2 busy boys and a dog.
Happy Birthday Jimmy!

My Mom

Today is my mother's birthday. I don't she would mind if I told you she is 74 today. I was born 53 years ago yesterday the day before her 21st birthday. So much for a party that day I am sure. She was the 6th of 12 of my grandparents children. She was also the last one to be born at home with the doctor coming to the house in a dust storm. This was 1934 in Kansas on a farm in the dust bowl days. She walked through the heat, rain and snow down a dirt road to elementary school in a one room school house. Later in high school and college she was very active in sports. Her high school basketball team went to a state tournament where she will tell you she averaged 28 points a game. She also played and lettered in softball and tennis.

These days I think her biggest joy is having family gather in her home. In fact as far as she is concerned the more the merrier. She loves to cook for a crowd and usually makes way too much food for all of us. Playing with the babies is always a treat for her and there are it seems always a few in our family to play with. Mom has 5 children, 14 grandchildren and somewhere around 15 great grandchildren although I am ashamed to admit I am not real sure about that number. She is with the youngest great granddaughter in this picture in February.

Happy to You Mom!

A Grandson Turns Five

This gentleman is turning five years old today. He is so excited about it that he called me this morning. So far his day has a trip to an aquarium and a meal at McDonald's. This weekend the celebration extends to a camping trip which is one of his favorite things to do.

Here's something to make you say that's so cute. He told his mom this morning that now that he was turning 5 he would be starting kindergarten but don't worry because he would still be living at home.

Meanwhile his mom is wondering how this wonderful baby boy got to be 5 so fast!
