First Jobs

In the old days, by that I mean in the first few years after high school, I poured greenware in a ceramic shop. I still am amused by the idea that I never took an art class in school and my first three jobs were art and crafty ones. I made shadow boxes for exotic butterfly displays, I worked in a Tandy Leather store and learned Western style leather carving and I worked in the ceramic shop.

The plate you see here wasn't done by me. My boss, the shop owner made it for me as a gift. It has always been on a wall someplace in every home I have had since I married. Is it great art? Not really. It does make me happy to know, however, that someone cared enough to make something just for me. Of course, old hippie that I am, the theme of peace in the world pleases me too. Married to a sailor, I still dream of a world where a warrior class it no longer needed. I know that won't happen, but a girl can dream, right?

Did anyone ever make a gift just for you? Have you kept it? Share in the comments. Would love to hear about any and all relevant things you have to share.

Back with more again soon.
Take care and stay cozy!
