Live and Learn

Waking up with an achy back this morning was not fun at all. It probably came from too much time sitting in the car on our trip and some of the house cleaning I did yesterday. (I still need to get pictures off the camera from that. When I do I will share them here.)

When I was younger and chasing toddlers these aches and pains didn't happen. Now that I am in the age range for the silver version of vitamins I have figured out that the right balance of movement and rest is so much more important to my well being.

It is sometimes said that you can't teach an old dog new tricks but I have found that life is continual learning. If you agree share something in a comment that you have learned. I love the stories and comments my readers share.

thinking about it

I have been thinking about new glasses for awhile now and considering my options for getting the best results at a good price. There are places online for ordering your eyeglasses and generally the cost is less than in the brick and mortar shops you find in malls or at an eye doctor's office.

The two types of sellers, local and online seem are at odds with each other though. The online sellers of prescription eye wear need certain measurements to give you the results that will work for your comfort and vision. An eye doctor or the place in the mall takes these measurements as part of an exam with the expectation that you will purchase your glasses from them. It does cost a bit more but you get personal service. They are reluctant to give all these details to a customer and have them walk out the door to buy somewhere else.

My question to you is as follows. Are those measurements part of a prescription that should be handed to you so that you can shop for your new glasses where you like or is it a bit like getting your feet measured in one store to buy your shoes somewhere else?

Question of the Day

The vast array of products you can get online now makes me wonder about the usefulness of infomercials as marketing tools. You have all probably stumbled across these 30 minute or so extra long commercials on late night television or I notice now with our Direct TV channel line up any time day or night. I can find these shows on nearly any time day or night and selling real estate strategies, makeup, music, weight loss supplements, kitchen gadgets and appliances and more.

Question of the day is - Have you ever bought anything from one of these shows and if you did what was it?

Anticipating Dinner

Early this morning I put one of my favorite dinners in the crock pot. We will be eating roast beef and potatoes tonight. Carrots are in the mix too and I will be making gravy. You know this is the kind of dinner tastes so good.

Tonight is not really even my favorite part of making this meal. What I really, really look forward to is roast beef sandwiches in the days after. Do you fix any meals just to have the leftovers?

It is official

When I talked to the young gentleman you see on the right yesterday he was not yet officially 4. According to his logic he could not be a year older until he had his celebration. The celebration is over now and he is 4 years old whether he likes it or not.

Have we just discovered the secret to not aging? Just don't have a party?

Not Quite

I was away over the holiday weekend. An unplanned, spur of the moment trip since Jim had a long weekend. I can keep up with any email on my phone but I got behind on reading blogs that I follow.

I have a reader app on my phone but I still prefer to read blogs at home on my computer. I follow a lot and I mean a lot of blogs of all types. I of course started following crafty blogs when I had a shop on Etsy and many of those bloggers can be found now on Artfire, Zibbet and other sites. I also like to follow cooking, photography, travel and interesting personal blogs.

My list on Google reader was 1000+ and reading a bit each day I have it under 500 now. When I get all caught up I will feel like the grinning guy on the enzyte commercial. Well maybe not a grin that cheesy but I will feel better being on top of what is going on out in the bloggy world I follow.

Kitchens on my Mind

In all our house looking lately the first room I look at is the kitchen. In the Phoenix market right now many of them are missing at least the refrigerator and some of them the stove. I look at sink size and type as well. I want the counter tops to be in good shape and enough room on them so someone can work on food preparation easily.

After that I move on to bedrooms and closets. I like to see a nice size for the bedrooms. You know something big enough for actual furniture and enough closet space for the average person. Some bedrooms and closets are so small I really don't know how the builder thought they would ever work for anyone.

I also like to take a good look at the landscaping. If it has been neglected but basic layout and plantings are done that just need some care that is okay. Starting from a bare dirt yard can be expensive.

Back to kitchens.... I need to go pay some attention to my own.
Until next time,
